TRU COMPLIANCE SEISMIC CERTIFICATION

Contact

TRU Compliance offers a performance based engineering approach to test nonstructural components for the ability to maintain structural integrity, and other structural code requirements. Special Seismic Certification, also referred to as Seismic Qualification, is a product approval for components like mechanical and electrical systems. Evaluation of the nonstructural components test their ability to withstand earthquakes and meet functional requirements following these events.

The goal of special seismic certification is to ensure that:

  • Life-safety systems (fire suppression, egress lighting, etc.) function in ALL buildings regardless of occupancy category
  • Essential facilities (hospitals, police and fire stations, emergency shelters, military installations, nuclear facilities, etc.) are able to function and provide critical services following a seismic event
  • Hazardous and toxic materials are not released in quantities above limits specified by code

CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE

Receive more than a test report, request a certificate of compliance. Most importantly, it is the intelligent determination that a product meets the requirements for the particular project. Click here to search for certified products.

When it’s time to compile a seismic submittal, include a TRU Seismic Certificate with your test report. The certificate shows the product, size and type, is qualified and meets the seismic requirements of the project. Along with a full product listing, the certificate also provides the specifying engineer proof of testing and/or calculation. Request a TRU Seismic Certificate and turn in submittals with confidence and reduce misunderstandings from the reviewing engineers. We review all previous testing completed, recommend new testing or calculations, and fill in the gaps if necessary. Need more information on Seismic Certification? SERVICES

IBC COMPLIANCE

The International Building Code (IBC) requires that critical systems must  maintain structural integrity during an earthquake and remain operational.

HCAI OSP

The California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) has pioneered the enforcement of IBC requirements.

IEEE 693

IEEE 693 covers seismic qualification of battery racks, transformers, switchgear and other products and equipment for substations.

SHAKE TABLE TESTING

The most realistic way to determine if a component will withstand an earthquake and remain functional is to put it through one.

PRODUCT ANALYSIS

Analysis can always be used as a part of a seismic certification program as a means to reduce potential testing requirements or cover unique configurations.

EXPERIENCE DATA

Past performance of equipment can be used as a cost-effective means to provide seismic certification of nonstructural components.

PRODUCT CERTIFICATION AGENCY

Certified components require a label from an approved product certification agency, to comply with International Building Code. Similarly, building officials across the nation recognize TRU Compliance as an approved agency. Subsequently, as a product certification agency, we demonstrate the following to the authority with jurisdiction:

  • Independence: An approved agency shall be objective, competent and independent from the manufacturer of the product being certified.
    • As a result a manufacturer cannot self certify their own components and maintain independence required for product labeling.
  • Personnel: An approved agency shall employ experienced personnel educated in conducting, supervising and evaluating tests and certifications.
    • As a result, the staff of TRU Compliance engage with industry codes and are responsible for authoring code provisions presented in ASCE 7 for special seismic certifications.
  • Equipment: An approved agency shall have adequate equipment to perform required tests.

TEST FACILITIES FOR SEISMIC CERTIFICATION

TRU Compliance maintains a network of affiliate and partner labs for seismic certification throughout the United States providing our clients with extensive options for testing products of all sizes.
